got THIS far and said "meh":

The single mother of three lives modestly on Highland Avenue with her children, ages 1, 3 and 6. She will make the best of it this Christmas, however she can.
ok, she's 26, so the 1st one is a mistake of a dumb/naive kid (could've been 'true love' lied to by the babydaddy etc etc), understandable, unfortunate, sympathy engendering...

NOW comes the part that will get me flamed

STOP HAVING [email protected](<!NG CHILDREN THAT YOU CAN'T PROPERLY CARE FOR! :gaah:

Blob is right, there's a big difference between being down on one's luck and creating one's circumstances. A single mother of three!

Where are the fathers of those children and why did she select those non providers?

+1 Blob. :)

I found the line "We went from Yes to We'll See" to be pretty telling. Instead of being honest and telling them "no, we can't afford a nintendo" she's seems to be expecting someone else to get it for her.

When is the entitlement mentality going to stop?

Many in our family are pretty tight on money this year so we've all agreed to no presents all the way around. We're not going to put each other in debt just because the stores tell us we should. Besides, nearly all the gifts are just made in china crap that will end up in the next garage sale anyway.

Speaking of garage sales... last summer we found many small child toys for usually around $5. This was for a toy that was originally $40-$100+. Mrs Culex cleaned the toys down with a bleach wash and they're literally like new and cost next to nothing. Our granddaughter is quite happy with them and doesn't know (or care) that it wasn't new.

We taught our son that second hand toys and clothes make our money go farther, and that there is nothing wrong with pre enjoyed, now as a young teen he is very responsible with his money and understands value. We too have decided that christmas is not about presents.
And I completely agree that 1 child may be a mistake or bad luck but 3???

When I was a kid my parents taught me that if I want something I needed to earn it. I never got anything for free in life. I saved every penny I could earn or find. I started saving when I was 5 and was old enough to understand the idea. I am tired of seeing everyone around me getting stuff for free or thinking they deserve it.

I saved up money for two years for spending money at college and my friends get 50 dollars a week from his dad doing nothing. He even calls and asked for more most weeks because he blows it all on crap. The only reason i am short on money is because I bought everything I need to start hunting this year. I realized I was a bit short on money so I changed my budget. People have to start realizing the hand outs are not going to keep on coming for ever. As a nation we have to start spending what we have and spending what we want or expecting hand outs.

When people who aren't on any sort of entitlement consider having more children, they usually consider whether they can afford to have and feed more children. Plus they usually have to consider whether they have insurance or can afford to pay the medical bills. Their paychecks won't automatically go up because they have another child they must feed and pay medical bills for.

Whereas it seems to me that people who are on foodstamps just have more kids if they want to, and not worry about whether they can afford to raise or feed them, because they know their foodstamps will simply go up to help feed the new child. They also probably have medicaid to cover all the birth-related expenses as well as any future medical bills for that child

So who's being rewarded here?.

Too few of us are footing the bill for those who don't work.

What is a bit frustrating is getting up early, going to work, after coming home late at night to give others a ride from work, knowing that I'm driving past homes of people snug in bed who use their clocks only to make sure they catch their favorite TV programs and their calenders to track days until the next welfare or benefits check.

Sitting in a resturant, talking to a lovely casino dealer who got off work, I made the mistake of asking what she thought the majority of her customers did for a living, which business, or if the military provided the most regulars. She told me something that was sickening. One of the most common sources of money was from government checks that weren't pay checks, disability, unemployment and different benefits.

If you pay someone to not work -- they won't work............If you pay someone to make babies -- they'll make babies.

This is a real simple concept. It's not that politicians don't get it. They get it alright. It also gets them votes from the non-workers and baby makers and the entire infrastrcture that supports them.

How about a new motto: No workee no eatee.

Not always..remember the doc who artificially inseminated a woman and she had 4 or 5 and the taxpayers were furious...telling the doc who performed that procedure-- knowing she was a welfare queen-- to pay the bills till they were 18....including the hospital fees...I think that was Florida..:scratch

Wasn't Octomom from Cali, and the worse part was, due to some genetic flaw from her, the majority or all of the children have severe medical problems?
