This is a very specific test.

After water is poured on weapons, some still can not shoot right away, reliability, or have other troubles. Imagine these things happening even time you try to shoot your weapon, to stay alive.

There is already a round in the chamber, to cycle all weapons in this test, to break the water welding, all the moving parts together. Hammering your weapon may be of help. More like lots of knocking your weapon, like some mechanics do to engines sometimes, in movies anyway.

What happens if you need to manually cycle the weapon, to load the first round by hand, if no round was in the chamber? Many more critical weapons malfunctions then. Where you weapon, will not shoot at all. Like during the Vietnam war, where M16 would not work during combat because of being dirty then. In cold weather, once your weapon or mags, etc, get cold outside. They need to stay cold. Or heavy condensation forms, and stays on the weapon. From being in a cabin or whatever and then, all the moist air condenses, on all the metal parts. It's like it has been welded together then. All the moving parts welder together. See if a strong man then, can cycle the weapon, to load one round to shoot. Then seen if he or she can load one more weapon. That should get the point across.

You must let it warm up, and re oil your weapon, I guess with extreme cold lubricants to maybe. You life may depend on this. Rounds may seem to be welder in your mags to. I assume it gets just as cold in the Ukrainian, as it does in Northern Canada, or in Russia.

Even a rattling pump action shotgun does the same thing. Will not shoot because you can not load a round Can see little frozen droplets of water on the barrel of weapon. From being inside a cabin, with warm moist air freezing on it. Needs to be tested out thoroughly. In extreme cold. Shooting your weapon and having water snow melt, and then freeze your weapon solid, like it was welder together, may again cause your weapon to not shoot and get you killed.

Each indivual round may freeze inside your mags once warmed up and condensation forms and them refreezes solid again, once cold again from being outside it stays welder together. Moisture, water is key to this malfunction happening.

Metal mags next to your body in the cold, suck the heat out of you. Even on the outside of your clothing I assume. Like any other metal does. Plastics can become fragile in the cold weather and literally shatter in the cold. May want insulated inserts to put mags in. A liner. You can count how may lives and injuries. That will be prevented with such a thing. Same with a insulated mat to lie on, when on the ground. Etc.

Mags themselves may freeze to weapon and may not be able to be replaced when empty. Can not insert a new mag.

Have insulated weapon to so your hands do not get cold. Rifle wraps to insulate your from cold metal of weapon. Cotton or something. That does not melt. Weapon needs to stay cold. Like be covered when outside or in a unheated porch or something. Stay cold. Once warmed for any reason like shooting. Re-oiled and make sure it still can load a round. Before you need to, to save your life. Always, always, always. A few ready mags on the mat, lying next to you and not freezing you.

You do not want to have to rely on perfection. You want 2 or 3 ways to fix your weapon so it works again. Like a wrench or hammer to tap your weapon and knock things loose so it works again. If that works. A wrench may be able to twist the safety switch.

Live round in the chamber can still be dud rounds. Weapon may get blamed. Need ammo with tighter tolerances for cold weather. Not sure what ammo does when not working properly in cold weather. Did see some sparks for lack or a better word, in some weapon firings. Accuracy may be off. Less distance. Ballistics may be different. Lots of muzzle flashing. Maybe powder is not burning fast enough.

Well later into video he pours water onto weapons. May want a condom to place over your entire weapon for lack of a better term. Frozen water on your weapon is the problem. Water that melted and then froze again on your weapon. If weapon is still hot must be able to handle the heat. Barrel sticking out may be OK, or with cover over barrel guess or a barrel plug. A carbon fibre coated wooden plug maybe. Whatever. Keep water snow out.

You do work in the cold. You get sweaty. You get freezing cold afterwards fast. You need a towel to dry off sweat. Try to be a little cold while working. Maybe a replacement shirt to replace soaking with sweat shirt to.

If you have these special synthetic materials that wick sweat away from body. That just puts sweat in a outer layer and that freezes outer layer, I guess. Wipe off sweat, replace wet inner layer. Synthetics are much warmer, and easier to dry out. Holds less water. Synthetics, melts easy with heat from a fire. Down will get you killed, if it gets wet. Better than nothing. Must be a expert and everything, has to be prefect. Including circumstances, out of your control, in warfare. Natural material gets heavy when wet. Tough, can be. Dry out. If you can not dry out then what? Can beat out ice and snow to a point. Hard to replace wood in a lot of ways for a lot of things. In the cold. Plywood is much better to sleep on than the ground.

Having garbage bags to put things in and keep them dry fixes a lot of problems. Wet (falling) snow killed as it soaks through winter clothing. You need some type of poncho and rain pants that works in extreme cold weather. That fits outside all your warm winter gear.

If you do not have lots of fat to loose, as in inches per every week or two. Your body trying to stay warm when cold. Loosing inches of fat at the waste. I suspect you will look like a scarecrow fast. Like a jew form a WW2 concentration camp fast. Eating your own body alive to stay alive. Staying warm with only the cloths on your back makes a huge difference in body fat lost per a week. While just walking to somewhere else for example.

Everything needs to be lanyard-ed to you. If you take a mitt off or cap off, so it doesn't blow away, or get left behind. Which is extremely easy to do, when exhausted or rushed. The wind all by itself can do this. Blowing snow, makes for poor visibility to, at the same time.
A good example of this is military pilot vest survival vests. Everything is lanyard-ed to you.

I follow Garand Thumb quite a bit.

But no matter how much care he takes here there is a so much randomess that cannot be controlled in these tests.
For example a kernel of ice in the trigger group can (and likely is) not a function of the rifles robustness and cold weather suitability but randomness.
And the majority of stoppages shown seemed to originate from blockage in the trigger group.
A trigger group can be locked up by something as small and random as a dropped primer.
Its quite rare but it has happend to me before.

I did some cold weather testing one event at 19 F with lots of snow (all day and all night patrolling outside) and at 9F with outside overnight cold soaking sitting in the shade and then taking to the range next day.
Soaking them with water and then freezing I did not test, as I think the negative result is quite predictable.

I did have lithium batteries on the optics and they did work too even after the overnite cold soak which was a pleasant surpise.

Literally going inside a building and having moisture condense on the metal parts of gun or mags, and then go outside, out into the cold again before your weapon system, warms up, is cleaned, and oiled again. Keeps the gun, water welder together. Tapping might fix that. Check your weapon often to make sure it at least can load a round. Change a mag. Etc. Having a plastic air proof bag, to keep moisture off weapon may be a solution. Same with a plastic bag to keep moisture off mags that also get warm and cold is a good idea. Even just a garbage bag. When weapon is not burning hot of course. Again make sure your weapon functions at this level. Will not give your position away as firing your weapon might do.

Tapping weapons and mags.

If Ukraine gets invaded. I suspect Russia will wants lots of internally displaced peoples, for the EU to deal with. Kind of like the idea, of having a land mine destroy your foot, instead of killing you. Killed means your family gets a monthly check. Injured means, a huge medical bill monthly, plus a monthly check, and such. Lots of manpower tied up, etc. Looks bad if reports of frozen people are talked about, or not, on the news. Frozen families. Etc.

Depending on how wide scale a invasion becomes. May only be part of the country. More of the country. Russia has that (iron wall) approach. At least after WW2. Lots of space between the motherland and potential enemies. Well in modern times because of cruse missiles and such well lots of miles of space, to respond. With layer defences I guess. Military bases, subs, ships, etc.

Well Ukraine has been under Russian governance before. Most people will probably not care if Russia is in charge. But if a full scale invasion occurs, we will see I guess. Press tightly controls information flow in North America too.

In the past anyway. It seems like Russia like putting into power a pro Russia government. With lots of corruption. Worrying about politicians lining there pockets and not causing trouble for mother Russia. Know about the 1000 crimes they have committed, or can be looked into fast if needed. With real witnesses and such, (paperwork) to put in front of the TV.

May get to find out.

The Russia people seem to be very serious about such things as feeling safe, by being safe. You can even see it in Russia type post apocalyptic survival games. Like (Atom RPG). They make sure, in the game, that people see, there is lots of cheap food always, to buy, or get, or steal. With accounts of cannibalism during WW2 and such, and being invaded in real life. Still in there minds when it comes to military matters it seems.

Looks like the press had there 30 seconds of warfare and that was enough. Next time. If there is one. They may not want to bunch up so much. Remember this when the press wants to, send soldiers off, next time, to fight a war. Very scary stuff. When soldiers under constant bombardment had a breakdown, it was called (shell shock). Called cowards to they were.

I don't know how I would respond. If I had a choice I would want to get out of there to. I would have lots of sympathy for soldiers with (shell shock) or whatever it's called today. This reporter should understand that now. The british have been know to let soldiers have some hard liquor, to settle the nerves, when being bombarded. May turn some people into alcoholics.

Well years ago on vice news in regards to Ukraine. The staff from vice news were in some building. They were being intimidated. I realized or believed right then that the press this time is going to be treated differently. To me watching the news, like before seeing the USA press and such in the past give fake "just cause" for warfare in Iran for example. Still seemed to be in peoples minds. So it seems to me that people I believed this time in Ukraine and in Russia too are going to treat western NATO journalists differently. I believed, right them, that the average person thinks, that when the press shows up, all they do is cause trouble. Push in this case, government agendas, that can get people on both side killed.

And people on both sides are not happy. Especially with the USA press. The Ukraine side needs the western press to drum up support for them. So a little different treatment for them. Russia it seems, as a super power to, I don't think cares, what the US population thinks anymore. Bringing warfare again, to the border. As the average person in Russia thinks, believes. Right on there border. Basically. With what is well know, as to how Russia, responds to threats. That being said Russia would do the same thing (Cuban missile crisis) and has.

12:47 into video, a dog is there just sitting down and looking around. (the calm before the storm maybe). Don't understand what's going on but knows something is going on. People are acting s certain way to when they know extreme violence might be just around the corner (invasion). All kinds of high level psy-ops stuff, in going on in these videos. This man in the press, wants to join the Ukraine defence force basically and show there faces and does with some. Even if I was willing to show my face. I would not be impressed by this person in the press, causing serious trouble. Involving these peoples families, and such to. Maybe forcing them to fight. How would you take that. If invasion is soon likely, in your country.

I think this time. Being able to take out the press, while some government minister is present, giving a press conference, will be considered icing on the cake and poetic justice. By the average Russian. Basically unlike 3rd world countries Russia doesn't have to care, militarily speaking to, if they kill US press personal.

Soldiers get orders. There is bureaucrats and politicians. Then there is the people. The police would do the same here (N.A.). You would not be shown like this. There would just be a P.R. press release, telling you how terrible that person(s) is. You loose power in places like this or take on the boss. You are in big trouble. That is how it works. Everyone is aware, in these places. None are nice people. Same thing can happen here. Just done differently. All politicians hurt people. Destroy people. So they all have many enemies.

3:30 They still make sure local officials know what is going on still. Because he can and there's nothing he can do about it. Still makes sure he knows though. Probably a implied warning to. Things are getting out of control here because I don't like it. That's all that matters. Well with everything else going on to. Showing others he's a powerful Russian man to.

So he wants protests stopped here. So more will probably happen. Situations involving violence. Unless he starts getting fearful for his own personal safety. July 2014 posted. Then again, the boss who showed up, may have had his boss call him, and tell him, to do something about this.

Ukraine is finding out about the carrot and the stick it looks like. In video anyway. Whatever that's worth. Don't seem to care about the politicians and high level bureaucrats at all anymore. Other that trying to kill them. Care about the soldiers and police and the people. Speaking to them directly via artery fire and such. Here and there, to show them stuff. Make them realize stuff. Played the Ukraine politicians, like a puppet for a while. No real military experience at all and using tactics, that are used again civilians. For civilian terrorist groups. A indication that the leadership there. Some anyway, feels isolated and alone. Must do stuff themselves.
