So many people are talking about preparing for hard times ahead...and then some people are actually preparing...but what are we preparing for?
Economic Meltdown? Revolutionary War? Civil War? Anarchy?
What can we do to prepare? What do you think?

Now THAT was an ineresting read...

As for myself, I feel that being able to rise to meet the challenge of keeping my family and myself warm, dry, and fed is of the utmost improtance, no matter what the obstacle is. I feel that we face a much greater threat from relatively isolated (perhaps regional) natural disasters, than from North Korea going ape**** or our own gvt folding (or perhaps knuckling under) around us. There are many meteors flying around in space, there is a volcano under Yellowstone, Fault lines, hurricanes, tsunamis...the list is a mile long. Add to that the aforementioned North Korea, the Middle East, our own gvt losing touch with the common citizenry-at some point gvt has gone from serving the people to being some untouchable, unstoppable entity-gangbangers in the malls, people honestly thinking food comes from and will always be on the grocery store shelves...hell yes I think our country is faltering. If that's paranoid, then so be it. I don't think it is.

We are not beyond repair but it is time we take a long, hard look at ourselves as a nation and as a world and place our values and our efforts into things that MATTER.

Hell yes I'm getting prepped and hell yes I hope I never have to use any of it.

Here is what I am preparing for, in no particular order.

    1. Hyper inflation
    2. Economic meltdown.
    3. Loss of "essential" governmental services
    4. Infrastructure meltdown
    5. Desperate people. (see 1,2,3,4)
    6. Weapon confiscation
    7. Constitutional evaporation
    8. Governmental collapse
    9. Zombies
    10. Other

I ditto the previous poster. I have to keep my family warm, fed and safe.
I have one friend who is planning to protect his family too. One! I thought I was the lone ranger for awhile, till I found this site. I am learning much.

    Preparation

I'm preparing my family for whatever personal SHTF scenario we may face. Whether thats a widespread problem or just a family situation. My basic preparations are guided toward keeping my family safe and well-cared for, whether the situation be a job loss, long term illness, natural or man-made disaster.

Short or long term, IMO we(my family) need the basics (water, shelter, clothing, fuel, food, hygiene/health), a good mental outlook (mental preparation), and a strong community of friends in the area who think the same way. Like I saw in another post, becoming self-reliant is an easy way to be more prepared for any hiccup in your plans.

Ummmm . . . no. In fact, I am trying desperately to get in to the federal government, in federal law enforcement.

The government is not your enemy. A large number of elected officials are idiots, but that doesn't make the government all bad.

And seriously, have you ever met anyone from FEMA? That organization is such a cluster-f*ck, they'd take seven years and three acts of congress before they would consider putting up a four foot tall chain-link fence. I really don't think you need to be concerned with FEMA. It's all the damned dirty liberals that are destroying this country, allowing it to slide into socialism.

And when our country does slide into socialism, or maybe even worse a benevolent dictatorship, government ceases to be good. The system is infested with rats both liberal and conservative who do nothing but scrounge of the good citizens of the US. Time to vote the vermin out of office and replace it with more vermin!!!!

I am preparing for economic meltdown and/or hyperinflation as well. Unemployment isn't going down at all. The only jobs available are part-time or temporary that pay low. It looks like we are still going to have to scrimp and save to get by for many months.

You are so right sir. I am so tired of both sides telling me they are doing things for my benefit, and things get worse every year. I wish they would at least kiss me before they s____ me. And yes, they are pretty much all rats, fighting for control of the money pot.

The only chance we have as a nation for any real change, is a complete change out of rerpresentatives that we now have--both parties--complete change. Unfortunately, it will never happen.

I have been prepping for a while, the usual stuff. I see the prep as an insurance policy. I hope I don't have to use most of it, but I sleep better at night, knowing that I don't have to stand in line begging for an ever decreasing supply of food, from our benevolent masters. if you think about it, if one can concentrate on a few key survival elements, that person will have the greatest chance of surviving the vast array of hardships that might come our way. I speaking mostly of having a good food and water supply, some ready cash or precious metals , a way to protect what you have, and a place to live.

I don't think we will have much longer to wait till the SHTF. Our countrys' situation is so bad, I don't se how it can go much longer. Speed up your preps, and batten down the hatches, it's going to be a rough one folks.
