Around here, some of the rich people have HEATED driveways! and, of course, paved.
Can't even begin to imagine what that costs to heat.

My drive is about 500 ft long. Is potholes surrounded by a small amount of gravel, lol.
CONSTANT upkeep, that does not last.
There are 3 bad spots that are Sink Holes. Drop bricks, rocks, into then gravel. A year later, they're back.

Oddly, the drive is smoother in the winter. Mud and Water freezes in the holes, giving a nice surface as it's plowed once or twice.
Of course... there is the dreaded warming. Frost comes out of the ground and driveway becomes mud and quicksand. Two weeks normally, so I park up front and walk in.

One year, the frost came out too fast and they had to close my road. THAT was fun.
There were 8" slabs of ice/gravel/dirt that were "floating" on top of quicksand mud.
Once that broke through, there was no fixing it until the frost all came out.
