Moving to the Athens, AL area soon. Looking for a country rental, (land only is ok) to get started.

That's what we were looking at. We visited the area in March, that's what looks good to us.Look in the Lester/Salem/Elkmont/Ardmore area, or west of Athens towards Lauderdale County. Any further east would be getting close to the mess that is Madison/Huntsville. Just my opinion.
Interviewed for a job while there and was offered a position whenever I get there, so now it's a matter of finding something there and renting our place out here in Missouri.

Sounds like you all got some weather last night.
Got friends in Salem. Awesome place. Plenty of beautiful land. The area that just got ripped up by storms was nice. Also +1 on staying out of Madison county and the outlying areas. Decatur is getting pretty crowded too. I like Lawrence county. I think I'll stick around here.
Mentioned in a pm to 'em that Christo's in Salem is worth a lunch visit. Maybe just childhood memories playing a factor, but a Christo's burger beats an Athens Dubs or Moulton Nesmith's any day in my book.Got friends in Salem. Awesome place. Plenty of beautiful land. Never had Christo's before. Nesmith's has gotten to where the patty is so small you get three bites of bun before you hit it. I'm a Penn's guy. Willy Burger in Hartselle was good too. Don't know if they're still open.

I didn't realize you were so close. Madison has some really good farmers markets, good places to meet local farmers.Madison here
