I came across some 9 cent seedless watermelons at my local farmer's market and I'm itching to do something with them (haven't bought any yet). These things are HUGE and there is no way that hubby and I will finish a quarter before it goes bad. Currently I primarily dry fruits and veggies from...

I would like to add dried meats to my canned and freeze dried stash, but am not sure how to do so. I have a vacuum sealer, and use regular vacuum bags for storing things in the freezer. What would be the best method for storing dried meats, in a storm cellar? Which bags would be best, or...

Ever put a buffalo into canning jars? I just found out that's what I'll be doing tomorrow. For 7 years we've been caretakers of a small herd of buffalo on a neighboring property for an out-of-state landowner. He started hinting this spring that he's about ready to be done with them, and now...

Saturday our local grocery had a huge fresh produce sale. All USA grown foods from south GA. and north FL. I bought a bushel of snap beans grown in south GA for $19. Canned them up last night and had 45 pints. Can't always be sure how the garden will produce but at least I have a head start.

Hello folks. I just finished doing 6 and 1/2 quarts of chicken thighs. I rehydrated a teaspoon of it as a test. It tasted great. The only difference was that it didn't quite plump...

How would you store your spaghetti long term? I use mason jars for the smaller pasta, but the spaghetti doesn't fit and I don't want to break it up. I have a spaghetti jar with a rubber seal for immediate use. Ideally I'd like to do 3-4 boxes of spaghetti together instead of bulk storage. I...
