Hi everyone! I'm a new prepper and I tried my hand at some dry canning. It was super easy and I had fun with it. But I'm wondering how long these food items will last now that their in jars? I dry canned rice, beans, pasta, jerky, nuts, and dry dog and cat food. Thanks for the advise!

Stumbled upon this old, but very extensive book about food preservation. It was written in 1918, by William V. Cruess and goes into pretty good detail about preserving and drying food, making vinegars, and salting and pickling. Plus it has a full section of recipes for all the preserving methods...

HI, I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on the quality of food we put in our food supply. I see a direct relationship between the kind of food we eat and our health. That's not a radical thought by any means. My own philosophy on how to keep a family healthy is to feed them as close to natural...

Nettle season isn't too far away in some areas so I thought it would be a good time to upload some footage from last year. This video is a bit long (ten minutes) and covers a lot of detail of harvest and cooking for folks that might harvest and eat nettles for the first time. YouTube -...

Tonight's dinner. Home-made hamburger buns (one sliced, the other about to be), home-canned hamburgers and home-canned cheese. I could have re-hydrated some of the onions and tomato slices I dried this fall, and put those on it too. The ketchup and mustard (not shown) were store bought, I...
