Consuming potatoes can increase brain function due to the fact that your nerve center requires certain things to function and the potato has them. Glucose? Yes! Amino acids? You bet! Omega-3? Of course! There is not much the potato does not bring to the brain function party.

Potatoes are also an excellent choice for heart health in that they can actually help prevent cardiovascular disease. They also help regulate your blood pressure with contents such as carbohydrates, protein, calcium, and niacin, just to name a few. They have even more potassium than a banana which is known for lowering blood pressure! Also worthy of note are the carotenoids in potatoes, which are also essential to heart health and wellness.

Potatoes are loaded with all the good stuff for your skin, too. Consuming them for their Vitamins C and B-complex, as well as potassium, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus will do wonders for your skin. It does not stop there, however. Potato consumption is your friend when it comes to easing inflammation in the intestines and digestive track thanks to the carbohydrates, protein, calcium, niacin and Vitamin C they contain. Vitamin C, specifically, is great as it gives potatoes antioxidant properties which enables cellular repair. The fiber in potatoes makes them easily digestible. As if that is not enough, research indicates that potatoes may even be a weapon in the war against kidney stones.

Potatoes are a good source of calories (100 each) and are easy to grow. In a survival situation, planting potatoes is a good option because of this. They also grow underground which will aid you in keeping your stash a secret from scavengers. Don\'t forget that all the Vitamin C in potatoes will also prevent things such as scurvy.
