Site slow-downs

I have received a couple of PM's from some members stating that there have been some troubles with the site.

I just got word that the server-farm that hosts PreparedSociety.com was attacked by a DDoS-attack. For those who don't know what a DDoS is ... Denial-of-service attack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Due to the attack, the server-farm was shut-down and a specialist was called in to fix the problems. The specialist will attempt to track-down the source of the DDoS-attack and will start legal-actions as soon as possible.

In the meantime, as members of the site, you probably don't have any reason to worry about a cascade-effect and a personal DDoS attack .... just keep reading and posting as per normal.

I got on just fine this time, just affected this site. Probably some disgruntled former poster. Hmmm I wonder who...

The attack is on the server-farm. All of the sites at the farm are being affected, so, it might not be someone disgruntled with PreparedSociety directly. The server-farm hosts quit a few sites (you can find a bunch of them listed at the bottom of the main page).

We have also been really fighting the spammers lately, it might be another form of spammer-attack trying to get to the inside of the servers to create more havok.

I noticed the other night it was acting weird. Even for my dialup it was running really slow. Thanks for the updates, Vance!

Moving to a new server farm in Austin, TX with a new firewall and related hardware shortly. During that time-frame the site might not be accessible but, once it is up again, I hope that speeds on the site will be significantly increased.
