Default Info needed: Hand Operated Windlass

Does anyone know where to find a good hand-operated windlass or windlass-construction plans for deep wells to use with a well bucket?

Use an old bicycle. Cut th front off in front of the seat post, turn it upside down and had a pipe the same size as the seat post in th ground or on a stand. Remove the rear tire from the rim and there you go. "Pedal" the bike with your hands while the rope is wrapped around the rim 1 1/2 times. The rope will feed to the ground while you pull up your bucket. You will also have brakes when you bring it to the top. Just use a bunji cord or screen door spring to hold the crank arm when you get to where you want to stop.

Thanks Cliff. That is a good option.
